Scope of the ConferenceFollowing the success of the 1st International Conference of the journal of Travel Medicine & Infectious Disease, this second event in the series will bring together leading experts for a comprehensive and topical programme focusing on the latest research and policy in travel medicine and infectious disease. The scientific programme will include comprehensive coverage of travel medicine and infectious disease issues. Topics that will be considered include: - Recent advances in the prevention of infectious disease for specific travel risk groups such as paediatrics. - Attendance at religious gatherings and the particular risk of exposure to meningococcal meningitis. - Issues surrounding long-term protection afforded by vaccination. - The prevention of malaria in endemic areas and management of the returning traveller. - The consequences of natural disasters, such as the recent tsunami and the hurricanes affecting North America, will be reviewed and discussed with concomitant public health implications. - Recent guidance from the WHO on international travel health matters, including the prevention of transmission of respiratory borne disease associated with air travel. - The significance of respiratory borne diseases and travel, with particular reference to avian influenza. In addition, one of the main aims of the conference is to highlight the growing importance of travel medicine and provide up-to-date information and reports of new developments in this continually evolving specialty. Who should attend?This conference is intended for all those who practice or are interested in the discipline of travel medicine and infectious disease; in particular travel medicine health care practitioners, medical practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and students who practice travel medicine within the fields of primary care, occupational medicine, infectious disease and tropical medicine, emergency medicine as well as public health medicine. |
